Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Animal Industry livestock (cattle) dispersal program : the case of Camarines Sur [Philippines]
1988
Panambo, J.B.
The socioeconomic characteristics of the program beneficiaries and nonbeneficiaries were the same except for tenurial status, sex, and membership in organization. The breed/type of cattle raised by the program beneficiaries and nonbeneficiaries were significantly different. Significant differences existed on the program extension services rendered to the program beneficiaries and nonbeneficiaries. The level of knowledge about the selected cattle production technologies of the program beneficiaries and nonbeneficiaries were significantly different on the following: selection of stock, culling of stock, artificial breeding, heat detection, mineral supplementation, pasture and forage crops production and utilization, provision of housing, isolation of newly acquired stock and marking cattle for identification. Significant differences between the program beneficiaries and nonbeneficiaries were observed in the adoption of selection of stock, culling of stock, natural breeding, balancing of ration, provision of housing and marking cattle for identification. The level of knowledge of the program beneficiaries about the selected cattle production technologies was related to the number of seminars on cattle raising and frequency of listening to "Pang kauswagan" radio farm program. No significant relationships were observed between the nonbeneficiaries' level of knowledge about the selected cattle production technologies and program support extension services. Similarly, there was no significant difference between the program 'beneficiaries' and 'nonbeneficiaries' level of adoption of the selected cattle production practices.
