BAY HWG 1608 (proposed common names terbutrazole and fenetrazole), is highly effective as a seed treatment (R Raxil), and as a foliar fungicide (R Folicur). This fungicide shows excellent activity against numerous economically important disease of crops grown in temperate, subtropical and tropical regions. Folicur is effective against Mycosphaerella fijiensis. Applications of the fungicide help to assure the presence of a high number of functional leaves at the time of fruit emergence, increasing the chance that the fruit will develop optimally to maturity. Exobasidium vexans, a foliar pathogen of tea, can be controlled with an application dosage about 10 times lower than that of the commonly used copper compounds. On cereals, foliar applications of Folicur control many leaf and head diseases including rusts, Septoria spp., Pyrenophora spp., powdery mildew, Cochliobolus spp., and Fusarium spp. As a seed treatment, Raxil controls smuts (Ustilago spp.), bunts (Tilletia spp.) and other seed-borne diseases.
