A new region of compact occurrence of Carex aristata R.Br., a rarely occurring sedge species, has been discovered recently in Inskie Lake District in Western Pomerania. Morphological traits of Carex aristata and characteristics of its sites in the above Lake District and soil analyses results are presented. Ash composition of the sedge species in question was analysed, what proved a close relationship between the amount of exchangeable bases in soils and the amount of the alkaline elements in plants. This bears evidence of a relatively high elasticity of the species in question and of the possibility of adaptation to soil conditions. Separately analysed leaves and stalks proved a considerable differentiation in the content of ash elements. Also the content of organic acids, amount of nitrogen and silica were greatly differentiated
