Influence of short wood harvesting method on the value of large timber, work performance and direct cost in matured pine stands

Comparative studies on the short wood harvesting method with the bole method proved that the short wood method significantly increased the work performance, especially with the increase of off-road transportation and haulage and the technical level of work mechanization. The value of large timber at the short wood method is insignificantly lower than at bole method at classification to appropriation. At classification according to quality and dimensions the value of large timber is at the short wood method on the average greater. The author proposes at present to introduce the short wood method for harvesting timber in matured pine stands, especially at higher mechanization level, except of stands of the highest quality and at small distances of off-road transportion and haulage. In case of introduction of the classification according to quality and dimensions the short wood method of timber harvesting should be spread in matured pine stands
