Sugar-related acids and lactones isolated from leaves of kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and clover (Trifolium pratense L.) were analysed by GC as trimethylsilyl derivatives and identified by their MU. 31 compounds were identified altogether, namely 25 in kidney bean, 29 in alfalfa, and 25 although a little different in clover. Among them there were 20 acids, 10 lactones and a non-acidic compound, myo-inositol. Nine acids and all the 10 lactones were found in legumes for the first time
