Resistance to Phytophthora infestans in potato cultivars and its relation to maturity

Distribution of potato cultivars according to maturity and resistance to Phytophthora infestans in foliage and tubers has been presented. It is based on the data of varietal assessment in three European countries (the Federal Republic of Germany, the Netherlands and Poland) and on the description of a potato collection in Czechoslovakia. Potato cultivars differ considerably in their resistance to P. infestans in foliage and tubers, the two characters being only weakly correlated. The following combinations of characters are less frequent: 1) early maturity and resistant foliage, 2) late maturity and susceptible foliage, 3) late maturity and susceptible tubers and 4) resistant foliage and susceptibile tubers
