Labor utilization and migration of population in villages surrounding Kho Yai national park [Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand]

On migration, one-fourth of 337 households had at least one member migrated in the last five years. Among this one-fourt; 85 percent were households with out-migration. The rest 14 percent were households with members migrated in. On labour utilization, half of the sample households were with at least one inadequately utilized labour in the dry season. In the rainy season, the percentage decreased to only one-fourth. When all households were classified by various socio-economic characteristics, percentage of indaequately utilized labour were significantly greater in house holds with smaller size of land owning, with lesser income as well as households without any cultivation in the dry season, respectively. Labour utilization were not significantly different among other socio-economic characteristics. There was no relation between these independent and dependent variables as anticipated that they were related. Both groups, households with and without inadequately different. Only in households with specific conditions: lesser number of labour and smaller amount of off-farm income, such expected relationship that more out-migration among households with inadequately utilized labour existed.
