Aspergillus sp. (A-8) and Aspergillus sp. (B-25) were selected from two hundred and eight strains to be studied. The comparison showed that A-8 produced the highest amount of cellulase and carboxymethyl cellulase (1.22 X 10(exp.6) and 1.88 x 10(exp.6) units/gm rice straw. When the fungi were cultvated on 1:1 ratio of 5 mm rice straw and five rice bran, the maximal number of spore produced by A-8 and B-25 were 4.98 x 10(exp.2) and 2.07 x 10(exp.11) spore/gm of substrate respectively. The experiments performed in glass jar showed the significant difference in the rate of decomposing rice straw treated with either single or the mixer of two strains (A-8 and B-25) to the untreated control group with the best result from those of single strain treatment. Further studies of large scale decomposition when straw were decomposed in round cement tanks, again a higher rate of decomposition were in the presence of iether A-8 or B-25 than untreated sample.
