A trial was carried out to examine 2 factors, nutrient density in diet and commercial crossbred pigs, involved in growth performance. A total 24 individually penned castrated pigs, with equal number of commercial crossbred between Duroc x Large White x Landrace (50% D x 25% LW x 25% L) and Landrace X Large white (75% L x 25% LW) were used. This experiment was conducted with initial weight between 30-35 kg and between 55-60 kg at final weight. Two difference diet formulations for growing pig period (30-60 kg), diet of high (H) and recommended nutrient density (control) with energy levels (ME) 3318, 3054 kcal/kg and protein levels 18.02, 16.13% respectively, were formulated. The proportion of energy (kcal/kg) and protein (g/kg) levels were negligible difference. All pigs were fed ad libitum. The responses of growing pigs to diets, as influenced by breed were investigated in 2 x 2 factorial design. The results indicate that diet (H) and D x LW x L crossbred increased growth rate (ADG) and feed conversion efficiency (P0.01). There was also a significant interaction between diets and crossbred groups on growth rate. The nutrient density of the diets did not significantly affect the growth rate of L x LW crossbred. The growth rate and feed efficiency of the D x LW x L crossbred fed diet (H) and diet (control), were 942 g/d, 753 g/d (P0.01) and 2.23, 2.50 but for the L x LW crossbred were 680 g/d, 612 g/d and 2.25, 3.31 (P0.01), respectively. D x LW x L crossbred group fed diet (H), showed higher daily feed intake than L x LW crossbred group (P0.01), 2.2 and 1.7 g/d, respectively. Otherwise, there was no difference of daily feed intake between the two crossbred group fed diet (control).
