A study was undertaken of the alfla-tomatine content of the leaves and fruit of four tomato varieties grown in the Tha-Chein area of Thailand with a view to establishing possible relationships to yield which might reflect pesticidal properties of the alfla-tomatine. The tomato varieties used in the study were L22, Sida M.K., M. Din-Dang and Kasetakorn. No clear relationship between the alfla-tomatine content of either the leaves or fruit and fruit yield per plant was able to be established. The alfla-tomatine content of the leaves of L22, Sida M.K., M. Din-Dang and Kasetakorn was 18.23, 16.33, 6.75, and 30.07 mg/gm dry weight, respectively; in the fruit the respective contents were 3.22, 2.84, 2.71 and 3.51 mg/gm dry weight. Relative mean plant yields for the four varieties were 1158, 1253, 998 and 1173 gm and were not significantly different between varieties.
