Two Yugoslav winter wheat varieties were grown in the conditions with or without irrigation and with the application of growth inhibitor. At the same time sowing densities, 100, 200, 300, 500, 700 and 900 sprouted grains/m were investigated. Irrigation had an effect on the increase of the number of spikes/m but also on the decrease of mass and the number of grains per spike with both investigated varieties. When CCC was applied in the conditions of irrigation, the number of spikes increased but only with Novosadska rana 2 variety. During this treatment, the number of grains increased with this variety. Irrigation caused lodging of both wheat varieties while the application of CCC completely eliminated it with Novosadska rana 2 and to some extent with Partizanka. Grain yield increased by irrigation in Novosadska rana 2 but decreased with Partizanka. Application of CCC further increased the yield with Novosadska rana 2 and decreased it below the level of nonirrigated variant with Partizanka. Grain yield continued to grow to the density of 500 sprouted grains/m with both investigated varieties.
