Determination of physiological parameters of drought resistance in maize

Resistance to drought of several maize lines was investigated by standard drought tests: germination, visual estimation of damages of plants in the field accumulation of ABA, yield and stomatal characteristics. Plants were exposed to drought in the field and controlled environment and changes on leaves were monitored: a) water regime parameters (water potential and its components, relative water content, stomatal conductivity), b) biochemical parameters (the content of ABA, ions, sugars and K+ in stomata). On the basis of the results obtained, a model of drought resistance in maize was suggested.
