In June 1987 and 1988, strong occurrence of bacterial spot on the ear of some wheat varieties was observed. From the diseased ear a number of bacterial isolates were isolated and 6 of them studied in detail. It was found out that all the 6 isolates caused strong necrotic process of wheat tissues after artificial inoculation. Their pathogenic properties were found on peach shoots, green fruits of cherry, lemon, pear, paprika and tomato as well as on bean pods. On the basis of a wide spectrum of pathogenicity and bacteriological characteristics, it can be concluded that the investigated isolates, originating from the diseased wheat ear, belong to the polyophagous bacterium, Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae van Hall..
