The influence of indole 3-butyric acid on the rooting apple cuttings [MM 106]

Investigations were carried out with cuttings of the MM 106 vegetative rootstock. The effect of different concentrations of IBA (500, 1,500 and 2,500 ppm) upon rooting of cuttings of the investigated rootstock was monitored. In rooted cuttings the lenght of roots was measured and this number recorded both per cutting and in each treatment. Indolbutyric acid (IBA) had a stimulating influence on the rhizogen properties of the MM 106 vegetative rootstock cuttings. At an Indolbutyric acid concentration of 2,500 (ppm) a particularly high influence on the rooting of mature cuttings was demonstrated. With the IBA concentration mentioned the rooting of the cuttings up to 94%. The rooted cuttings were categorized according to the number and length of the roots into 3 qualitative categories: poorly rooted, medium rooted, and well rooted cuttings. Correspondingly, the number of the cuttings was identified. The rooting of mature, healthy and, according to thickness, equalized cuttings took 45 days, under controlled temperature of 21 + 0.1'C (warm storage). The substrate for rooting was a homogenized and sterilized mixture of peat, quartz sand and perlit (50:30:20).
