This paper gives the results of the use and the effect of NH3 on the quality of whole maize plant silage in conditions of great cattle agglomeration, and the following has been found: Anhydrous ammonia could be used in the preparation of silage in the studied conditions; The greater part of NH3 is lost during use which reduces the economic effect; The anhydrous ammonia added to the ensiled mass helps increasing the level of protein regardless of the losses; The use of maize silage treated with anhydrous ammonia in the nutrition of milking cows had a slight, negative effect on the milk quantity and its fat and protein content, while it did not cause significant deviation with regard to the consumption and conversion of feed and nutritional matter of the rations.
