[The harvest index of soybean and its significance in creating high yielding varieties]

Hrustic, M. (Poljoprivredni fakultet, Novi Sad (Yugoslavia). Institut za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo)
Five soybean varieties were chosen and diallel crossing was performed with the aim of investigating the method of inheriting the harvest index. In addition to the parents, the F1 and F2 generations were also studied. The harvest index of the studied parents ranged from 0.50 for the Protana variety to 0.61 for the Calsi variety. The mean value of the F1 generation is most often at the level of the average values of the parents or closes to the weaker parent. The mean value of the F2 generation is also closer to the weaker parent, while transgressive separation in the negative direction has been found in almost all of the combinations. Negative heterosis found in the inheritance of the harvest index indicates a proportionately greater heterosis in the mass of the plant than in the yield. The harvest index was studied using 12 soybean varieties from Novi Sad. The harvest index of the studied genotypes differed greatly.
