Jakic, D. | Valter, D. (Veterinarski i mlekarski institut, Beograd (Yugoslavia))
The results of microbiologic examinations of native, dissolved or frozen boar semen point out to contamination with various microorganisms. The most commonly found are Micrococcus (52,44%), Bacillus (29,3%), Proteus (27,31%), and Pseudomonas (25,14%). The degree of contamination of dissolved semen is much higher than that of native or frozen semen, the latter being least contaminated. Conception rate and the size of a litter farrowed by the sow inseminated with bacteriologically examined semen did not deviate from previously accomplished results. Microbiological findings suggest a need for the intensified hygienic measures to be taken for prevention of semen contamination a withdrawal.
