On farms on which leukosis was diagnosed, vertical transmission of enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL) virus was confirmed. The number of vertically infected breeding cows on farms ranged from 5 (4.73%) to 20 (8.62%) in relation to the total number of leukotic animals on each individual farm. The vertical transmission of the infection is not a dominant way of EBL spreading since vertical infection was confirmed in only 45 cows (6.28%) out of the total of 716 leukotic animals. This proves the fact that horizontal transmission is predominant in leukotic cattle.
