Ovarian follicle development and atresia in rats neonatally treated with estrogen
1987
Lovren, M. | Pantic, V. (Institute for Biological Research "Sinisa Stankovic", Beograd (Yugoslavia))
The ultrastructural changes and the incorporation of 3H-thymidine into ovarian tissues of rats, neonatally treated with estrogen, were examined. Thymidine was injected on the 3rd day of life and the animals were sacrificed on the 10th or 38th day. The second group of animals, neonatally treated with estrogen, was injected with this radioactive precursor on the 83rd day or 24 hours before being sacrificed. The number of labelled granulosa cells was significantly smaller in females neonatally treated with estrogen and sacrificed on the 38th day or later, compared to the control group. The number of granulosa cells decreased significantly in atretic, cystoid and cystic follicles.
