Dynamics of harvest-areas, fruit-trees and number of domestic animals in Yugoslavia
1989
Bojnec, S. (Ekonomska fakulteta Borisa Kidrica, Ljubljana (Yugoslavia))
In the Yugoslav agriculture during the period from 1957 to 1985 long-run declining trend in agricultural and arable areas, fields and vineyards was empirically ascertained. On the contrary, fruitgardens and meadows were found to be enlarged. The above mentioned trends were characteristical for the private sector. But in the social sector agricultural and arable areas, fields and vineyards were also increasing during the analysed period. Harvest-areas under farming-crops in the private sector (and in the Yugoslav agriculture as a whole) were declining, but in the social sector were increasing. In the livestock the number of conditional heads of cattle was increased. The fastest growth was ascertained for poultry and hog. The increased yields were the most important source of the growth of farming production. This was especially true for the private sector. The increased farming production in the social sector was influenced more by increament of harvest-areas under farming-crops. Increased production of fruit-growing was due to the enlarged number of fruid-trees, while in the vine-growing it was due to the increased yields. The increased production on the number of conditional heads of cattle was the main source of growth in livestock production.
