Alamgir, A.N.M. | Roy, S.K.
Analysis of nitrogen (N) phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) in straw showed that the content of N in all varieties and P only in BR3 were high in Aus over Boro crop. K was always low in Aus crop. In grain N was high in IR8 and IRATOM-24, P in all varieties and K in all excepting IR8 were higher in Aus than that of Boro. Reducing, non-reducing and total sugars in both straw and grain were higher in Aus than Boro crop. Time requirement for cooking rice from Aus season was higher than Boro season. Excepting BR1 volume of rice was high in Boro crop but that of boiled rice in Boro crop was high in BR3 and IRATOM-24 and Aus crop it was with BR1 and IR8. All but IR8 rice had high water uptake ratio in Aus crop. BR3 from both seasons remained unaffected but BR8 and IRATOM-24 rice from Aus crop underwent splitting when cooked. In such case only BR1 from Boro crop underwent splitting. All but BR1 from Boro crop had non-adhesive character after cooking.
