A survey on the diseases of domestic water buffaloes at Kanihari (Senbari) union of Mymensingh district [in Bangladesh]

A total of 10 diseases and disorders of water buffaloes were identified in 138 clinical cases during the period of September, 1989 to June, 1990. The proportional incidence rate of neoascariasis (39.9%) was highest followed by indigestion due to mixed parasitic infection (16.7%), fascioliasis (11.6%), mixed fluke infection (10.1%), tympanites (7.2%), ruminal atony (5.8%), aglactia (2.9%), repeat breeding syndrome (2.9%), dystocia (1.4%) and broken horn (1.4%). Necropsy examination of 25 carcasses revealed neoascariasis, hepatic fascioliasis and intestinal amphistomiasis in 60%, 24% and 16%, cases, respectively. Examination of 356 faecal samples recorded helminth infection with Haemonchus sp. (21%), Strongyloid sp. (30.6%), Neoascaris vitulorum (20.2%), Amphistome spp. (14.6%), Fasciola gigantica (12%), Cooperia sp. (8.9%), Trichuris sp. (u.1%) and Bunostomum sp. (4.7%).
