Incidence of sarcocystis species in the musculature of cattle [in Bangladesh]

Sarcocystis was detected in 21.87 percent of 192 cattle slaughtered at slaughter centres of greater Mymensingh district between October 15, 1988 and September, 1989. Prevalence of infection was related to age, increasing from 16% of cattle upto two years old to 23.94% of cattle over two years old. There was no significant regional difference in prevalence amongst cattle of different region of greater Mymensingh district. Female cattle were infected more (27.27%) compared with males (19.04%). Gross examination revealed 10.83% while tissue digestion revealed 21.67% of infection.
