The paper gives answers to the problems concerning future development of cattle husbandry. New market conditions, especially the declining demand for cattle products, force changes in the system of husbandry. In the past, breeding schemes which prefer fast herd turnover were widely used. Their implementation increased the production capacity of cows in relatively short time. Beside large amount of milk produced, there was an increase in natality and accompanying growth of the number and weight of animals for slaughter. This caused and immense increase in the per head beef production per year. The voluminous production was asssociated with economic difficulties related to herd reproduction. However, such problems were eliminated by governmental financial subsidies. In addition to precautions leading to a decrease of total cattle population, it is necessary to make changes in herd structure. This will of course cause temporary but tough and trying economic problems. Proposals to overcome these problems are presented in this work.
