Gene resources of spike fertility genes (SFG) of winter wheat with the standard spike (NS) morphotype are evaluated. The resources differed mainly in the way how they reached a high sink capacity. Three factors extracted 94 percent of variability among resources. The gene resources with gigas spikes (the NS type) were selected according to the factor score. There are resources with high number of grains per spike (93) in the first group, able to form high number of grains per node of spike rachis. The most suitable resources and wheat cultivars are compared. From this follows that SFG gene resources with gigas spike differ not only in the sink capacity but also in the growth and development of spike. It follows from the correlations between components of spike sink capacity and ideotype traits of the plant that no relationship between the culm length and the length of spike rachis exists and that there are resources with high spike sink capacity and high grain weight. The trends of further research are given in the paper.
