The concentration of zinc was determined in the seminal plasma of 10 Chios island and 10 Friesian rams in the course of a year. the concentration of fructose, citric acid and of AcPh, AlPh, GPT, GOT and LDH activity were also determined in the same samples of seminal plasma, as well as the macro- and microscopic characteristics of semen (volume, motility, degree of motility, density, percentage of unstained with vital stain and percentage of abnormal spermatozoa). The breed and the season were the main sources of variation for the Zn of seminal plasma throughout the year. It is varied in Chios island rams from 5.8 mg/ml in Dec to 11.5 mg/ml in March and in Friesian rams from 5.2 mg/ml in December to 9.3 mg/ml in March. The concentration of Zn in the seminal plasma of Chios island rams was correlated negatively with the volume of semen (r=0.61** ) and positively with the percentage of abnormal spermatozoa (r=+0.82** ). On the contrary, in the Friesian rams the only significant correlation was the positive one between the Zn of seminal plasma and the GPT activity in the seminal plasma (r=+0.61** ).
