Isolation of Brucella canis and serologic investigation among dogs in the area of Thessaloniki

Blood was collected from 250 apparently healthy dogs, of Thessaloniki area. Blood culture resulted in the isolation of two strains of Brucella canis. Serum agglutination test with R-phase brucella antigen (SAT-R, Br. canis), gave 13 positive reactions to a titre 1:200, 27, 1:100 and 30, 1:50. a) Serum agglutination test (SAT-S): One (1) serum positive (titer 1:20++). b. Rose Bengal test (RBT-S): Eight (8) sera positive (+ to ++++).
