1990
Okidi, C.O. (Institute for Development Studies, Nairobi (Kenya))
Focuses on one of Kenya's largest drainage basins carrying the largest amount of fresh water ie the Lake Victoria Basin with a purpose of looking at the irrigation activities being conducted within the lakes coastal areas and the institutions which are involved. The value of irrigation work is assessed by the crops produced and marketed, employment creation and the development of irrigation skills and culture, provision of food and nutrition and the environmental impact. Constraints such as energy resources and land tenure are also discussed in consideration of the extent to which the irrigation activities are likely to use the waters of lake Victoria in the near future.
