Arao, L.A. (USAID, Nairobi (Kenya))
Refers to irrigation systems as methods employed in the capture, conveyance and application of water in the process of irrigation which are dictated by the nature of the local topography. Discusses and compares the traditional and the modern irrigation systems as are known in Kenya. Tries to establish whether the experience gained over the centuries with traditional irrigation can be applied in the modern irrigation context. Concludes that the traditional methods could and should be incorporated in every stage of planning for modern irrigation.
