The occurrence of the abnormal panicles of paddy rice [Oryza sativa] and the soil condition at the Kinki and Chugoku districts of Japan

The actual condition on the occurrence of abnormal panicles of paddy rice was investigated in the Kinki and Chugoku districts, with locate in the western part of Honshu Island and in the warm regions in Japan. The occurrence of abnormal panicles was found mostly in the prefectures which faced to the Seto Inland sea. Most of the results obtained in the field investigation on abnormal panicles suggested that the occurrence was connected with organic matter application. The factors concerned to the occurrence of abnormal panicles were discussed based on the data which were obtained from the fields
