Based on the observation of the relationship between quality class and farmgate price of paddy, it seems that the quality classification did not appropriately reflect the actual market prices. Among four classes of paddy, there was no significant difference between VQP [village quality paddy] and SQP [storage quality paddy] class in terms of their price. Quality factors which really determine paddy price were mainly moisture content, followed by foreign matter, green/chalky grain and yellow/damage grain. Red rice did not affect selling price. The results of interaction analysis between survey and experimental data showed that processing for improving paddy quality from HQP [harvest quality paddy] to VQP class resulted in the highest incentive for farmers, with incremental B/C ratio of 2.6. While processing from HQP class to LQP [Lumbung quality paddy] and MQP [milling quality paddy] classes resulted incremental B/C ratio below 1.0.
