Improved technology mungbean production
1990
Anon
The yield level of the improved technology for mungbean production is 43% higher than that using the unimproved technology. Mungbean, known as "poor man's meat", fits very well into many existing cropping systems. It is usually cultivated for its seeds. At present, it is utilized as raw material in many manufacturing processes, such as mungbean sprout production, "hopia" processing, "sotanghon" manufacture, etc. The mungbean Development Action Project was initiated in Iloilo and Negros Occidental in 1985-1986. It emphasized its technology promotion on three components, i.e., variety, inoculation with Rhizobia, and drill method of planting. Focusing on some components, rather than recommending a whole package, was more acceptable among farmer cooperators. With the improved technology, a net income of P6,503.75 per hectare is realized or return on investment (ROI) of 118.33%. Definitely, the improved technology would increase production, improve seed quality, and stabilize the mungbean supply in the market.
