Role of some ecological and physiological factors in determining the productivity of field bean (Vicia faba L. minor)
1990
Filek, W.
Field experiments showed that conditions prevailing in the early phases of growth had a dominant effect on determining the course of plant growth and development and of the seed crop formation in field bean. Some traits favourably connected with the grain crop became apparent already at the time of flowering. The factor that proved to be especially significant was the relation between, on the one hand, the leaf area and the leaf area duration in the particular stages of growth and, on the other hand, the formation of the grain crop. There was no relationship, however, between the grain crop and the index of net assimilation rate. The leaf area of plants was positively related to such elements of the crop as the number of pods and seeds, the weight of seeds and the harvest index, but no such relationship was found in the case of the size seeds and their average number in pods
