The results of long term studies and investigations on energetical effectiveness of various crops are given together with analysis of 10 rotation schemes which are to constitute an attempt at applying energy consumption research to rationalization of production structure. The scope of studies involves direct accumulated energy input reflecting energy consumption in plant production. The investigated object were large acreage state farms located in Wielkopolska region, Poland. The results obtained prove that plant production has a positive energy balance. It seems that in the average farming conditions one should try to obtain 3-5 energy units of the product from 1 input energy unit. This calculation, however, is too optimistic since it does not include the energy input due to general input. If the general input is assumed to be 50 percent of the direct one than the effectivity index will fall to 1.5-2.5 but, nevertheless, all plants would have a positive balance
