Evaluation of soil parameters for irrigation planning and design for upland crops for the town of Sta. Ana, Pampanga [Philippines]
1990
Gatas, R.S.
Based on the evaluation and analysis of data, clay and silty clay type were found to be predominantly used for growing upland crops. Several recommended values for sandy loam, sandy clay loam, clay loam, and clay were found to provide better confidence in their usage in planning and design works. The bulk density of the soils in the upper 30 cm. depth is slightly higher than the values provided by Israelsen and Hansen (1962). The particle density values of the soil were higher than the 2.65 g/cc which is the average density values for most soils. The total porosity values obtained are well within the range of 30-60 percent. Most of the values of the moisture content at field capacity were found to be slightly higher than the values provided by Israelsen and Hansen (1962), and this varied from 17.73 percent for sandy loam to 37.7 percent for clay. Moreover, values of permanent wilting point and available moisture are also slightly higher than the values suggested by the same authorities.
