This study aimed to evaluate which of the new control strategies tested for corn borer Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenee) was effective and economical. Carbofuran application at 1.0 kg/ai/ha applied once 40 days after planting (DAP) and twice (30 and 40 DAP) significantly protected the corn plants from corn borer population and damage as indicated by less number of pupa, lower number of borer holes, shorter length of tunnels, and higher yield. Corn plants of these treatments yielded 3.96 and 3.86 t/ha, respectively. However, a single application of carbofuran (40 DAP) was the most effective and economical control against corn borer. It gave a net of P14,094. Detasseling technique gave the lowest net return of P8,670 (the untreated plots even gave a higher net return of P9,078).
