The study was conducted to determine the effect of Rhizobium inoculation and fertilization of Leucaena diversifolia seedlings in two grassland soils. The performance of the seedlings was assessed using height, growth, nodulation, total biomass, root/shoot ratio, nutrient content, and nutrient uptake as parameters. Inoculation of Leucaena diversifolia seedlings with CB 81 strain in San Manuel clay (Isabela) and Bacolod clay (Laguna) soils [Philippines] generally improved all parameters. Fertilization of L. diversifolia with complete fertilizer (14-14-14) also markedly increased the overall seedling growth. Fertilization at a rate of 50 kg/ha produced more vigorous seedlings than either 100 kg/ha or unfertilized control. Fertilization or inoculation alone generally resulted to marked increase in overall seedling growth but when these two variables were combined, they significantly produced better seedlings in both soil types.
