Studies on the incidence of ovarian cysts and their relation to the ovary functional state and condition of oviduct and uterus mucosa in cow
1990
Kuryszko, J.
The study was carried out a group of cows in which ovarian cysts occurred. Its aim was to trace the development of ovarian follicles and the condition of epithelium of the oviduct and uterus mucosa in animals with ovarian cysts. As a results of histological, histochemical, histometrical and electron microscope examination, it has been found that the presence of multiple ovarian cysts is accompanied by a decrease in the rate of development of ovarian follicles and by a distinct increase in their atresia. Besides, there is an increase in the number of secretory cells in the ampulla and isthmus of the oviduct. The changes in the ovaries are strongly correlated with those in the oviducts expressed as increased number of secretory cells at a simultaneous decrease in the number of cilliated cells. The increased secretion of the secretory cells in the isthmus and to a lesser extent in the ampulla of the oviduct may render it difficult for gamets to migrate, and thus make fertilization impossible. Infertility accompanying multiple ovarian cysts results first of all from an abnormal composition of the epithelium of the mucosa of the oviduct
