Dependences between quantitative and qualitative composition of clay minerals and total surface on clay content were described. The analysed samples were taken from the different parts of Poland, layed in the ranges of different glaciation. The quantity of minerals from the illite group varies from 27-75 percent; the smektite group from 6-46 percent; the kaolonite group from 2-17 percent; and minerals with the mixed illinite-smektite structures from 3-70 percent. The content of minerals from smektite and mixed illinite-smektite group significantly increases in the soils layed in the ranges of older glaciations. In the examined soils differentiation of mineralogical composition is a result of common activity of the soil forming processes and geological processes. Statistically significant dependence between the total surface and parameter M exp (x), which expressed quantitative mineralogical composition connected with the content of fraction 0.02 mm and 0.002 mm, was observed
