The blast disease, caused by Pyricularia oryzae Cav., could infect all stages of barley growth and transmit through seed of variety Pang da No.5 at 62.75 percent. The infection percentages on lemma, palea, rachilla, endosperm and embryo were at 69.25,66.75,62.50,45.00 and 27.25 respectively. It produced blast symptoms in blotter, brickstone, sand, soil and water agar method with the infection of 16.84,10.33,8.80,7.99 and 0.91 percents respectively. The effective fungicides in controlling P. oryzae on barley seed were Derosal 60 and Topsin M-50 ULV while Benlate 75 C, Tecto 90 and Fuji-1 40EC gave lesser degree of effectiveness. All fungicides mentioned previously and Hinosan 20EC inhibited mycelium growth of P. oryzae on Potato dextrose agar but Tricyclazole 75 gave poorer results. The fungicides inhibiting conidial germination of barley, P. oryzae were Fuji-1 40EC and Hinosan 20EC while Tricyclazole 75 gave lesser degree of effectiveness. However, Tricyclazole 75 was the most suitable for foliar spray in protecing healthy barley seedlings before infection.
