Utilization of protein-enriched cassava in growing rat and pig diets
1986
Anocha Lausriratanachai
Experiment 1: The study of the effects of protein-enriched cassava (PEC) on the biological performance of forty weanling rats (20 males and 20 females) with mean weight of 90 g. Because of high mortality rate in the male rats, the results from the female rats only were analysed. The average daily gain of the female rats which fed on corn and PEC were 2.242 and 2.343 g./hd./d.;feed intake were 8.964 and 9.860 g./hd./d. Experiment 2: Study on the digestibility of PEC. Nine male pigs were fed PEC, roasted PEC and steam-heated PEC diets whose apparent dry-matter digestibility were 79.85,80.15 and 81.81 percent, apparent digestibility of protein were 57.04,60.39 and 59.09 percent, digestible energy were 3304.9,3230.8 and 3228.56 kcal./kg., metabolizable energy were 2953.82,2796.05 and 2844.75 kcal./kg. and biological value (BV) was 80.69,88.65 and 94.24 percent respectively. Experiment 3: The effect of the fermented product (PEC) on performance and carcass characteristic of thirty-two growing and finishing pigs (Large white) 16 males and 16 females with initial weight of 30 kg. The final weight was 90 kg. The four experimental diets were: (1) control, corn-soybean meal, (2) PEC, sun-dried biomass, balanced amino acid. The pigs on the four diets had average daily gain of 0.638,0.521,0.603 kg./hd./d., feed intake were 2.068,2.290,2.273 and 2.265 kg./hd./d., backfat depth were 0.90,0.79,0.83 and 0.32 inch., dressing percentage were 72.9,72.43,72.33 and 72.33 %, lean percentage were 45.02,43.72,43.07 and 43.09 percent.
