The two-year investigations were carried out into the quantity of N, P, K, Ca and Mg in dry plants of oregano (Origanum heracleoticum L.) in different localities of Istria and Vojvodina (Yugoslavia). It has been established that quantities of the investigated biogenic elements depended on location, type of soil, age of the plantation, number of swaths, plant density and treatment of the cultivation. The investigated elements in dry herbs were found in the following quantities: nitrogen 0.9425-2.484%, phosphorus 0.181-1.275%, potassium 1.120-1.770%, calcium 0.775-1.891% and magnesium 0.129-0.410%. Nitrogen was the most significant in forming the vegetative mass of the oregano. Potassium and calcium quantities were by 30% lower than the nitrogen quantity. The quantities of phosphorus and magnesium in dry plants were similar and 10 times lower than nitrogen. These data could be used as orientational parameters which indicate the needs of oregano for some elements.
