Maize yield in dependence of mineral nitrogen content in the soil

The stationary experiment was used in monitoring the dynamics of mineral nitrogen. The experiment was established on the calcareous chernozem. Soil samples were taken at the layers of 30 cm, up to the depth of 180 cm before sowing and at the end of the vegetative season. Mineral nitrogen was determined according to the method of Scharp and Wehrman (1978). The obtained results indicate that there is a correlation of the content of mineral nitrogen and yield in the form of square curve (y=a+bx+cx2) and that correlation coefficients are high and significant (r of 0,84 to 0,99). The yield significantly increased up to 100 kg N/ha and 5 t of straw. On the basis of the content of mineral nitrogen, due to different mineralization, the fertilization of a variant with 50 kg N/ha was insufficient and the fertilization of the variant with 100 kg N/ha was excessive.
