The role of intermediate fodder crops in meat and milk production

Green forage needs in the months from spring to autumn can be covered by the short-grown forage crops production lasting 200 to 230 days. Under the suitable conditions this production could be extended. The required voluminous and concentrated fodder for 10 dairy cows, yielding 20 kg of milk a day, can be produced on 14,73 hectares and the needed silage can be provided with of the mixture of cereals and hungarian vetch (peas) is produced on 14,58 hectares. After winter mixed crops for silage, the required concentrated feed can be supplied from corn grain production. In the convenient conditions (Mediteranien) winter mixed crops can be dried for hay. After spring green forage crops (peas and oat) on 4,20 hectares, the additional corn silage as surplus can be produced. Annual requirements of green forage and silage for 100 dairy cows can be produced on 29.26 hectares and considerable quantity of silage as surplus.
