The paper deals with some important features of soybean production in Vojvodina (Yugoslavia). Two periods are analysed, the first from 1956 to 1985 and the second from 1980 to 1986. In the observed period, 1956-1985 the harvested soybean surfaces had an increasing tendency (the rate 17,16%). Soybean yields grew at an average yearly rate of 3,78%. The volume of soybean production grew at an average yearly rate of 22,80%. Taking into account some important characteristics of soybean production in the period 1980-1986, we can say that soybean yields and surfaces varied a lot. The increase of selling prices (the rate 55%) conditioned the increase of production values and soybeans are now competing more and more with other basic farming crops. To stimulate the rise of soybean surfaces it is not enough only to equalize the income with the leading farm crops (wheat and maize) and to apply some encouraging organizational and modern farming methods. Varying of crop yields along with the existing financial risks stemming from that production require further research in the field of adaptation of modern farming methods, selection and the choice of sorts the most suitable in this condition.
