Investigation of some quality features of the cms hybrids in the oriental varieties [of tobacco]

The chemical features of all the hybrids investigated are characteristical for the oriental tobacco varieties. Thus, the mineral matters content in the varieties J - 90, J - 92 and P - 199 are in the ranges characteristical for the oriental tobacco varieties, while in J - 91 and P - 202 it is somewhat higher. The nicotine content is lowest in J - 92, and highest in P -202. The nitrogen matters content is also in the ranges characteristical for this type of tobacco. The carbohydrates content is highest in J - 90 and lowest in P - 199. Physical properties (length, width, vein percent, leaf percent, substantiality) in all the tobacco varieties are characteristical for the oriental tobacco. The same is the case with gram volume, relative mass and water retention capacity. The tasting, which was done by the descriptive method, showed that all the varieties have a good quality in smoking, i.e. taste, aroma and fullness in smoking, expecially the varieties J - 91 and P - 199.
