Effect of the environment on water regimes, yields and fruit quality in strawberries

A trial was conducted in 1982-84 on the effect of the growth environment (open field or protected conditions) in strawberry cv Senga Sengana on some parameters of water regimen (water content, transpiration and cell sap osmotic values), as well as on some biological properties (plant vigour, assimilative surface, fruit mass, yields and chemical fruit characteristics). The strawberry cv Senga Sengana showed poorer water regimen under protected conditions, which resulted in considerably lower yields and later ripening in the 1st series of fruits.
