The possibility of using milk substitutes consisting of different portions (0:25:50:75%) of proteins made of fat-free and treated soybean meal was tested on seven groups of ten calves each of Black and White breed according to factorial test pattern. The average daily gain for calves, in the period of feeding them with liquids (0 to 60 days) had the tendency to decline (674 to 565 g.) with the increase of soybean proteins portion in milk substitutes. At the same time, weight gain was less for younger calves fed on milk substitutes starting from 6th day after birth (606:629 g.). During the period of feeding with dry feeds (61 to 120 days) the effects of compensational growth showed so that the daily gain for calves during the first four months of life was approximately the same and amounted from 751 to 795 g. The results of efficiency of utilization of nutritious matter, digestibility of meals and N-balance were considerably poorer only for the calves fed on milk substitutes consisting 75% of soybean proteins. No greater differences were found for blood picture and more vital blood parametres.
