The effect of various herbicides on weed phytocenosis in flax in the Sarajevo valley [Yugoslavia]

The two year field experiments were carried out with soil and foliar herbicides applied for flax cv. Antares. The most effective herbicides were: Glean (75% benzenesulfonamide) with the coefficient of efficiency of 70.7-80.7%, followed by the combination of Vensar + Afalon (80% lenacil + 50% linuron) - 68.7-74.7% and Cobex (dietilamin) - 61.9-67.8%, without any notice of phytotoxic effect on the crop plants; Significantly highest crop plants grew on the plots treated with Cobex (in both years) and Surpase (in 1984); The plots treated with a combination of Vensar + Afalon had significantly smaller number of plants, as compared with the control; The highest flax plant and seed yields were obtained on the plots with Glean, but the difference was statistically significant only in 1984; The seed nitrogen and crude protein contents were higher in all variants with herbicides than on the control; The seed crude oil content was reduced on all plots treated by herbicides, but the differences were not significant.
