1991
Kashem, M.A.
The study was undertaken in order to have an understanding about the small farmers' opinion on the measures for removing the obstacles to the adoption of modern rice cultivation practices. Data were collected from a sample of 205 small farmers. A measure potential index was computed for exploring the importance of different measures. A weighted score was used in order to compute the relative importance of the measures among different categories of farmers. Out of 12 documented opinions, farmers' preferences for reducing the prices of sprayers ranked first as a measure followed by arrangement of irrigation through power pumps and tubewells. Rural job opportunity creation to increase income and ability to meet costs of modern rice cultivation was also pointed as an important measure.
